Social media memes and debates get emotional and can really bring out the worst of people and what they think they represent. Language can get twisted to mean something totally different. If you haven’t kept up with my other posts, the following video explains the term “Orwellian” better than I ever could.
In an effort to combat Orwellian memes, let’s start hashtagging them with #orwellian. Please make the honest effort to understand the full meaning of the term before you hashtag to prevent it from being trivialized.
As for #blasphemybusiness, a lot of “trolls” are out there just to make a moral stance look bad and when it comes to religion, those guys have a lot more tools to stir up negative emotions than the religious position. So, before they make a good position look stupid, hashtag it #blasphemybusiness. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if some of them were paid to make religion look stupid.
DON’T MAKE SOMETHING THAT IS SUPPOSED TO CONVEY THE MERITS OF MORAL BEHAVIOR AND PRUDENCE WITHOUT THE PROOF OF CONVICTION LOOK STUPID! Saving face is not that important.
Call them out with #orwellian, #blasphemybusiness, or maybe even both. The future may need the reference; the present especially does.
